1. My joy is in the Sov'reign Lord;
I know He rules o'er all.
I worship Him, Almighty King,
The Author of my call.
2. My heart must serve my Sov'reign Lord,
Though fame and friends be lost.
The riches of this world for truth
Is not so great a cost.
3. My stand is in the Sov'reign Lord,
I will not compromise.
Although this world will try its best
To cover truth with lies.
4. How precious is the Sov'reign Lord,
The Doctrines of His Grace,
For in salvation wrought above,
My Lord died in my place.
5. May I proclaim my Sov'reign Lord
'Til ev'ry knee bows down,
And praises giv'n to God alone
Become the joyful sound!
I wrote this hymn early in my ministry while attending my first Banner of Truth Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan in May 1986. One of the highlights of the conference was a life-defining message preached during the evening service on May 28th by O. Palmer Robertson on the theme No Compromise. After being encouraged and challenged by the message, I wrote down some personal points of application that became the words to the hymn. Through many years of ministry, through joys and sorrows, the words have reminded me to stay anchored in the truth of God's Word and serve Him above all.
