This hymn, entitled \u201cPrayer for a Blessing\u201d by John Newton is from Part I \u201cSeasons\u201d of Book II of Olney Hymns\u00a0<\/em>and was sung \u201cbefore annual sermons to young people, on New Years\u2019 evenings.\u201d<\/p>\n

May God keep us near His throne of grace and may this be our prayer as we begin the new year.<\/p>\n

Prayer for a Blessing<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16).<\/p>\n

Now, gracious Lord, Thine arm reveal
\nAnd make Thy glory known;
\nNow let us all Thy presence feel
\nAnd soften hearts of stone!<\/p>\n

Help us to venture near Thy throne
\nAnd plead a Savior\u2019s name;
\nFor all that we can call our own,
\nIs vanity and shame.<\/p>\n

From all the guilt of former sin
\nMay mercy set us free;
\nAnd let the year we now begin,
\nBegin and end with Thee.<\/p>\n

Send down Thy Spirit from above,
\nThat saints may love Thee more;
\nAnd sinners now may learn to love,
\nWho never loved before.<\/p>\n

And when before Thee we appear,
\nIn our eternal home,
\nMay growing numbers worship here,
\nAnd praise Thee in our room.<\/p>\n
