When we hear or read God\u2019s Word, we should always pray for understanding and wisdom. And when we have opportunity to gather with the church and sit under the preaching and teaching of God\u2019s Word, we should pray for the pastor. Apart from God\u2019s grace, all our efforts to worship and serve Him will be in vain.<\/p>\n

A Prayer for God\u2019s Grace in Worship<\/em><\/p>\n

Lord, we come to hear Your Word.
\nShine Your light! Unsheathe Your sword!
\nSend Your Spirit forth in pow’r.
\nCome and bless Your church this hour.
\nWe confess, our thoughts have strayed;
\nMinds distracted and dismayed.
\nOn the Son fix now each thought;
\nHelp us worship as we ought.<\/p>\n

Lord, as we prepare to hear,
\nWake each soul, unstop each ear.
\nConquer every stubborn heart;
\nMercy, saving grace impart.
\nWe confess, without Your grace,
\nVain our efforts in this place.
\nSend illumination’s light;
\nOpen eyes and give us sight.<\/p>\n

Lord, we lift up to Your care
\nHim who stands now to declare
\nTruth that teaches, warns, consoles;
\nBless this feast to feed our souls.
