Last month we had the privilege at Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral<\/a> of hearing from Conrad Mbewe. On New Year\u2019s Day 2017 Dr. Mbewe, who serves as Pastor of Kabwata Baptist Church in Lusaka, Zambia<\/a>, preached a message<\/a> from John 3:16 entitled \u201cGod\u2019s Indescribable Love.\u201d He encouraged us to begin the new year with our souls “anchored deep” in the unfailing love of God in Christ.<\/p>\n

Sometimes the verses we think we know best are the ones we can learn from the most. That is certainly true of John 3:16. Anytime we are under the preaching of God\u2019s Word, we need to listen intently, and even more so when the passage is familiar and we think we know what the preacher is going to say. Scripture is an inestimable and inexhaustible treasure. We need to hear it expectantly (even parts we think we know) and let it dwell in us \u201crichly\u201d (Colossians 3:16).<\/p>\n

This hymn is my reflection on the verse and the message. The love of God that He has given us in His Son is a sure fortress that shelters us through every storm and trial.<\/p>\n

My Soul What Truth Consoles You?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

For God so loved the world,
\nthat he gave His only Son,
\nthat whoever believes in Him
\nshould not perish but have eternal life.
\n(John 3:16)<\/p>\n

My soul, what truth consoles you?
\nFor hope, where can you run?
\nFor God so loved the world that
\nHe gave His only Son,
\nAnd everyone believing,
\nThough wrecked by sin and strife,
\nIn Him can never perish,
\nBut have eternal life.<\/p>\n

My soul, when life confounds you,
\nLook up to Christ above!
\nThe floods of fear can\u2019t reach to
\nThe heights of His great love.
\nIf clouds around me darken,
\nI know I will endure,
\nFor I have life eternal;
\nIn Christ I rest secure.<\/p>\n

So come, my soul, and worship,
\nGive praise to God and sing!
\nThere is no firmer promise
\nTo which you now can cling.
\nThrough every storm and trial,
\nMy soul He\u2019ll safely keep.
\nWithin the love of Jesus,
\nMy soul is anchored deep.<\/p>\n
