One of my favorite memories attending the National Founders Conference is the singing. From 1991 to 2004 the conference was held at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. During those years at Samford we met in Reid Chapel, an acoustically live and wonderful venue for congregational singing. We filled the chapel each year with the sound of theologically rich hymns sung robustly and predominately by men.<\/p>\n

One of songs I especially enjoyed singing at the Founders Conference was \u201cHow Shall I My Savior Set Forth?\u201d #55 in the conference hymnal, Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs<\/em>. The hymn is a declaration of praise for the glories of Christ and the wonder of His grace. And it is a passionate plea to sinners imploring them to come to Christ and find the peace and mercy that can only be found in Him.<\/p>\n

How Shall I My Savior Set Forth?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

1.\u00a0How shall I my Savior set forth?
\nHow shall I His beauties declare?
\nO how shall I speak of His worth,
\nOr what His chief dignities are?
\nHis angels can never express,
\nNor saints who sit nearest His throne,
\nHow rich are His treasures of grace;
\nNo! this is a mystery unknown.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0In Him all the fulness of God
\nForever transcendently shines;
\nThough once like a mortal He stood,
\nTo finish His gracious designs.
\nThough once He was nailed to the cross,
\nVile rebels like me to set free;
\nHis glory sustained no loss,
\nEternal His kingdom shall be.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0His wisdom, His love, and His pow\u2019r
\nSeemed then with each other to vie;
\nWhen sinners He stooped to restore,
\nPoor sinners condemned to die!
\nHe laid all His grandeur aside,
\nAnd dwelt in a cottage of clay;
\nPoor sinners He loved, till He died
\nTo wash their pollution away.<\/p>\n

4. O sinner, believe and adore
\nThe Savior so rich to redeem;
\nNo creature can ever explore
\nThe treasures of goodness in Him.
\nCome, all ye who see yourselves lost,
\nAnd feel yourselves burdened with sin,
\nDraw near, while with terror you\u2019re tossed;
\nBelieve, and your peace shall begin.<\/p>\n

5. Now, sinner, attend to His call,
\n\u201cWhoso hath an ear, let him hear!\u201d
\nHe promises mercy to all,
\nWho feel their sad wants, far and near;
\nHe riches has ever in store,
\nAnd treasures that never can waste;
\nHere\u2019s pardon, here\u2019s grace, yea, and more:
\nHere\u2019s glory eternal at last.<\/p>\n
