1. How deep the sinner's need for Christ.
O see how desperate his estate.
How vast the ravages of sin
That makes the sinner's debt so great.
O sinner, come to Jesus Christ!
And find the riches He can give.
In Him find all for life and peace.
O sinner, look to Christ and live!
2. The sinner stumbles, lost and blind.
Of danger he is unaware.
In ignorance he seeks not God.
He sees no need; he has no care.
O sinner, come to Jesus Christ!
And find the wisdom He can give.
He is the Way, the Truth, the Life.
O sinner, look to Christ and live!
3. The sinner stands condemned to die.
No sin of his remains unknown.
Each testifies a guilty plea
Deserving judgement from God's throne.
O sinner, come to Jesus Christ!
Find righteousness that He must give
To be forgiven and made pure.
O sinner, look to Christ and live!
4. The sinner walks a crooked path,
Polluted in the mire of sin.
He has no hope to please his God
Or find true peace and joy within.
O sinner, come to Jesus Christ!
For He does sanctify and give
A heart that loves and pleases God.
O sinner, look to Christ and live!
5. The sinner lies bound tight with chains.
By sin and death he is enslaved.
Alone he has no hope for he
Can not by his own pow'r be saved.
O sinner, come to Jesus Christ!
And find redemption He can give.
In Him alone is freedom gained.
O sinner, look to Christ and live!
The idea for this hymn came from a message on 1 Corinthians 1:30 preached by Tom Ascol on February 9, 1992 at Heritage Baptist Church (in 1992 HBC was meeting in Everman, Texas, near Fort Worth). At the end of the service, just after the closing prayer, I wrote the words of what would become verse 2 on the back of my bulletin.
