The Sounds of Conquering Grace
"Shout for joy to God all the earth; Sing the glory of His name;
Give to Him glorious praise!" (Psalm 66:1-2, ESV)
VERSE
1. All around the world
Are voices joined in praise
All singing of the grace of God
Whose voice the dead can raise
2. Down through every age
When God makes known His Word
Each generation adds its voice
And new songs can be heard
CHORUS
Come and hear the grand design of God
The sounds of conquering grace
For everywhere His gospel goes
His praises fill that place!
Ev'ry tribe and tongue and voice
Praising God with joyful noise
Filling every place—
It's the sound of conquering grace!
VERSE
3. Hear His masterpiece
Crescendo age to age
Each life He makes anew, a voice
He adds upon His stage
4. Each adds to the sound
A glorious tapestry
Of joyful praise that will resound
Into eternity
CHORUS
Come and hear the grand design of God
The sounds of conquering grace
For everywhere His gospel goes
His praises fill that place!
Ev'ry tribe and tongue and voice
Praising God with joyful noise
Filling every place—
It's the sound of conquering grace!
BRIDGE
No language we can speak
Can tell of all His grace
No favorite music is enough
To sing in every place
No style can contain
The fullness of His praise
And no one voice can sing of all
The wonders He displays
CHORUS
Come and hear the grand design of God
The sounds of conquering grace
For everywhere His gospel goes
His praises fill that place!
Ev'ry tribe and tongue and voice
Praising God with joyful noise
Filling every place—
It's the sound of grace!
FINAL CHORUS
Come and hear the grand design of God
The sounds of conquering grace
For everywhere His gospel goes
His praises fill that place!
Ev'ry tribe and tongue and voice
Praising God with joyful noise
Filling every place—
It's the sound of conquering grace!
TAG
It's the sound of conquering grace!
It's the sound of conquering grace!

THEME: Praise to God Resounding in the Music of the World
The idea for this song began in August 2012 when Tim Brister, who serves with me as a fellow pastor at Grace, shared with me some of the music he recorded on a recent trip to Haiti. It brought back memories of experiences I had hearing music while in Indonesia and Israel. I was reminded again that there are believers all over the world who are singing praises to God, and most are not singing like Americans. When you consider all the music that God has rescued and sanctified for His own glory—all around the world and in every age—the scope and variety of sounds are staggering. God is continually adding voices and instruments to His tapestry of praise. (See: The Sound of Worship: a study of Psalm 150.) No one style or type or preference can possibly contain or fully express the manifold praise of God!
