1.  When God in the beginning
        Created day and night
      He shaped the world in darkness first
        Before He gave it light

      The night before the sunrise
        So when the night is gone
      We might delight in deeper joy
        As we behold the dawn

2.  When Christ in time appointed
        Came down His bride to save
      Endured the cross, despised the shame
        His life He freely gave

      For joy then set before Him
        He suffered and He died
      Made perfect through His sufferings
        His church a spotless bride

        And placed within the tomb
      He promised He would rise again
        Defeat death’s fearsome gloom

      The risen Son has conquered death
